MAcc FAQs

General FAQs MBA FAQs MMBA FAQs MIS FAQs

Will courses taken at another college or university meet the requirements for entering the MAcc program?
Courses at other universities can give students the proper background knowledge for entering the MAcc program. You can submit a course description to the MAcc program director for approval.

Is a Masters degree required to work in the accounting field?
A Masters degree is not required for many jobs in accounting. Students with an undergraduate degree in accounting can find entry-level positions in industry and government. The U of A undergraduate program in accounting is designed to prepare students for these careers.

Can I transfer graduate hours from another college or university or study-abroad program?
Because the course offerings in our MAcc program are unique, all accounting courses for degree credit must be taken at the U of A. Elective courses can be transferred from another university. The Graduate School of Business requires that the course meet the following criteria in order for you to receive transfer credit:

  1. The course must be taken at an AACSB-accredited institution;
  2. The credit hours cannot be applied to obtain another degree;
  3. The student must be enrolled as a graduate student at that institution;
  4. Transfer credit is limited to 6 hours of course work.

So how do I apply to the MAcc program?
Contact the Graduate School of Business for an application packet. This will explain the application procedure. We look forward to receiving your application.

I don't have an undergraduate degree in accounting. Can I enter the MAcc program?
A student with an undergraduate degree in any field is welcome to apply to the MAcc program. MAcc students are presumed to have a background knowledge of business and accounting, though. Depending on your undergraduate training and work experience, you may need to take some courses in preparation for the MAcc.

I am currently a U of A undergraduate student majoring in accounting. Can I begin taking MAcc courses now?
Dual enrollment in the undergraduate and graduate programs is allowed, but only in the last semester of your senior year. To be dually enrolled you must be completing your undergraduate degree requirements and be accepted to the U of A Graduate School. Tuition charged during this final undergraduate semester is computed at undergraduate rates.

What are the minimum requirements for admission to the MAcc program?
The MAcc admissions committee looks at many factors in choosing students for the program. These factors include your undergraduate academic record, your score on the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT), personal recommendations, relevant work experience and leadership potential.

Will the MAcc Program prepare me for the CPA Exam?
The MAcc program is designed to prepare students for success in accounting practice. The focus is not directed specifically to the certification exam. The technical context of the program will give you a foundation to assist your preparation for the CPA exam.

Do I have to get a MAcc degree to take the CPA exam?
Completion of a MAcc degree is one of two ways to meet the educational requirements of the CPA exam in Arkansas. You can also fulfill these requirements by completing 150 college credit hours including specific courses in accounting, related business fields, and communications.
