MBA Laptop Computer Requirements

All Students in the MBA program are required to bring a laptop to class that meets the specifications by the Walton College of Business Technology Center staff.

Minimum Requirements

  • Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista Business edition
  • Anti-virus software (the University of Arkansas makes Symantec Anti-virus available free of charge to all students)
  • Wireless Network Card (NIC) 802.11 b/g
  • 80GB hard drive minimum
  • At least 1 (one) GB RAM if using Windows XP. At least 2 (two) GB RAM if using Vista.
  • Microsoft Office Suite Professional (Office 2003 or Office 2007)
  • Other software packages depending on course specifications

If you already own a laptop or if you have a company-issued laptop and it meets or exceeds the specifications for the program, and then you may use it for the MBA program.

If you need to purchase a laptop, you have two options:

  1. Purchase a laptop computer through the University of Arkansas computer store. Various models will be available at different price levels. These are educational prices and represent a discount versus retail or list price.
  2. Purchase a laptop computer on your own through the manufacturer of your choice, making certain it meets the above specifications.

 
 

Computer Skills needed to be successful in the MBA program

Proficiency in practical computer programs is necessary

Skills needed are:

  • Able to easily navigate on the internet
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Word
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Familiar with Microsoft Access
