Master of Information Systems: Overview

Your MIS Degree

The Master of Information Systems (MIS) degree is a 30 credit-hour program designed to provide professionals in information technology, or those seeking a career in information technology, the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in today's highly competitive, constantly evolving world of business technology.

The full-time MIS program can be completed in one year. The part-time program, designed for working professionals, can be completed in less than two years.

Prerequisites for the program include computer systems analysis and a programming language. Business foundations (accounting, economics, finance, and statistics) are also recommended.

MIS students benefit from cutting-edge curriculum, professionals in the classroom, and technology gifts provided by industry partners. The Walton College will give you hands-on exposure to numerous industry tools that are being used currently in the business world. Classrooms, computer labs, and remote access environments are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, extending the learning environment to you and enabling you to excel in the information technology industry.

Many courses in the MIS program are team-taught by faculty and industry experts, combining and comparing theory with practical application in real-world scenarios.

Certificate Programs

The Sam M. Walton College of Business offers two certificate programs for individuals who wish to advance their understanding of business systems without devoting the time to a full degree program. The Enterprise Resource Planning Certificate Program is designed to engage students in an interactive learning process that explores real challenges and opportunities in the effective use, implementation, and customization of ERP systems. The Business Intelligence Certificate Program is designed to provide students with hands-on experience with data warehousing and database concepts, as well as decision support systems and knowledge management. The certificate program is 9 to 12 hours in length and credit from the courses can be applied to the 30-hour MIS degree.
